River Watch for Hennepin County and the MN Polution Control Agency
River Watch:
Mrs. Higgin's 7th grade science classes paticipated in the River Watch Porgram through Hennepin County. While in the field at Site #4 (Rush Creek) students collected steam velocity data, stream width and depth, water appreance and odor, and weather and water temperature.
They also determined rock embeddedness, stream bed composition, and local land use.
The main things students are collecting while in the field are macro inverterbrates. By idetifiying these bugs, the students are able to calculate the water quality of the stream.
Each bug is given a polution tolerance level; the lower the level, the less polution the bug can tolerate and the healthier the stream.
The spring samples were collected on May 20th.
